Endpoints potentially related to the immediate versus delayed use of anticoagulants occurred 3 times in the control group (including the unanticipated outcome of deep venous thrombosis which occurred in one patient) and not at all in the treatment group (p = 0.09). Intent-to-treat analysis of all primary outcomes showed a significant benefit favoring anticoagulation (p = 0.007).
