Patent Foramen Ovale in Cryptogenic Stroke Study "PICSS"

Phase 4 Results

PFO was present in 203 (33.8%) of the patients. However, there was no statistically significant association between the presence of a PFO and increased incidence of stroke or death. PFO size, atrial septal aneurysm, and/or stroke type also had no significant association with outcome. The morbidity and mortality of PFO patients taking aspirin versus those taking warfarin were not statistically different.
