Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

Patients older than 18 who have had a recent (<= 14 days) subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) confirmed by CT or lumbar puncture, who have an angiographically demonstrated aneurysm, and whose planned therapies include open craniotomy with surgical clipping and nimidopine treatment, are eligible for the study.

Exclusion Criteria

Patients who have a pre-SAH Rankin Disability score of < 1, who have a preoperative World Federation of Neurologic Surgeons (WFNS) grade of IV or V, who are endotracheally intubated at the time of initial evaluation, whose body mass indices (BMI) are > 35.0, who have any disorder (e.g. cryoglobulinemia) that contraindicates cooling, or who have a known adverse reaction (e.g. malignant hyperthermia) to standard anesthetics, will be excluded from the study.
