Trial Description

To confirm that the use of hyperbaric oxygen plus physical therapy provides a long lasting reduction in the spasticity in subacute and chronic stroke patients.

Controlled, intervention study.

Patient Involvement

The patients received 30 Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) sessions of 45 minutes at 170 Kpa of isopressure with simultaneous Physical Therapy (given inside the hyperbaric chamber and by the same therapist) during a 6-week period. Prior to and after the program, the patients are evaluated by the same doctor using the usual scales (Barthel and Ashworth). Follow-up at 3, 6 and 12 monts after the end of the program.

Outcomes
