Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

Acute hemiplegia presenting within 30 hours of onset.

Exclusion Criteria

Older than 80 years of age, onset of paresis >30 hours before hospital admission, disappearance of paresis within 24 hours, dementia and /or focal neurologic deficit prior to acute paresis, coma, cerebral hemorrhage or tumor in initial computed tomography (CT) scan, severe disease (cancer, cardiac failure, renal insufficiency, etc.), already taking oral anticoagulants.
