Patients must have reported or ongoing symptoms must have lasted at least five minutes and have included either weakness and/or language disturbance at time of TIA/minor stroke. The patient must be enrolled within 24 hours of symptom onset according to last seen well principle. Must be 40 years or older.
Patients will not be eligible if they are candidates for thrombolysis or other acute intervention or if their stroke is felt to have a cardioembolic source. Patients with pure sensory symptoms, pure vertigo or dizziness, or pure visual loss are not eligible. Those currently on statin therapy, antiplatelet therapy (not including aspirin) or anticoagulation, or who should be commenced on them in the opinion of the Investigator, or who have contraindications to therapy are also excluded.
