Trial Description

To determine the effect of early intervention with nimodipine on blood pressure (BP), cerebral blood flow (CBF), and clinical outcome in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Trial Design

Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 50 patients at a single center.

Patient Involvement

Patients were randomized to receive oral nimodipine 60mg, or placebo. Patients who underwent surgery for clipping of a cerebral aneurysm received 200 mg nimodipine or placebo instilled into the basal cisterns intraoperatively. Therapy was continued for 21 days.
