Trial Description

To assess the advantages of post acute rehabilitation at home in improving functional outcome in surviving stroke patients.

Trial Design

Randomized, controlled trial of 355 patients.

Patient Involvement

Patients were randomized to receive treatment in a stroke unit or specialist domiciliary stroke care for up to 3 months.

Outcomes

Primary Functional and psychological outcome of survivors was compared at 26 and 52 weeks using the Barthel Index (BI) for personal activities, Frenchay Activity Index (FAI) for extended activities of daily living, Hospital Anxiety & Depression Scale and EuroQol for quality of life measurements.
