To investigate the effect of an acute stroke unit on mortality in patients with intracranial hemorrhage.
- Stroke Units Behavioral
Prospective, randomized, controlled, parallel, cohort study with two groups involving a total of 121 patients at a single center.
Patients were randomized to receive care in either an acute stroke unit or in general medical wards. Unlike the general medical wards, care in the acute stroke unit was multidisciplinary and based on specific guidelines that emphasized early mobilization/rehabilitation, treatment of fever and administration of antibiotics and fluids intravenously. Patients were followed until death or December 1998.
|Type||Measure||Time Frame||Safety Issue|
