Trial Description

To investigate the value of a home-care service as a supplement to the services already available for stroke patients at home.

Controlled trial of 857 patients.

Patient Involvement

96 general practitioners (GPs) in the Frenchay Health district were subdivided into 2 groups (trial and control) according to the 2 district nursing units. Those patients that registered with GPs in the trial group received home care while those registered with GPs in the control group received standard care. Patients were assessed at least two times by a single investigator. The last assessment was at 6 months. Caregivers were assessed at 3 weeks and 6 months.
