Abciximab
ReoPro®

Action
Intravenous platelet aggregation inhibitor, monoclonal antibody directed against the platelet glycoprotein GP IIb-IIIa receptor

Status
US FDA approved as an adjunct to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and in unstable angina patients not responding to conventional medical therapy when PCI is planned within 24 hours. Phase II acute stroke trial initiated 1998, published 3/2000. Phase III trial (AbBEST-II) prematurely stopped in October 2005 due to a high rate of intracranial hemorrhage. Further development in stroke is unknown.
