Remarks:

Mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure values were similar in both groups for the whole study period. Normotensive blood pressure values (SBP <140 mm Hg, DBP <90 mm Hg) were achieved in both groups after three months, and these values were maintained until the end of the study.

At the study end, mean SBP and DBP were 137.5/80.8 mm Hg in the eprosartan-based group and 136.0/80.2 mm Hg in the nitrendipine-based group, respectively.

The mean dosage of each drug used at the end of the study was 623 mg eprosartan and 16 mg nitrendipine.
