Notes: The thromboembolic events in control patients from three
prospective trials (AFASAK, SPAF and BAATAF) are combined
and classified as cerebral or systemic (non-CNS). Most thromboembolic
events associated with atrial fibrillation involve the brain.
Note:
“Intention-to-treat” results are shown. Thromboembolic events
represent all such events regardless of suspected etiology.
Transient ischemic attacks and intracerebral hemorrhages are
not included. Control represents placebo in all studies except
BAATAF where 46% of the “control” patients received aspirin
and 54% received no treatment. SPAF data are from group I
only.
