Case Study 5 (1)

A 75-year-old male awoke about 6:00 am, spoke coherently to his wife, and sat up on the edge of the bed. No later than 6:12 am, his wife noticed that he began having some trouble speaking, and then he fell back onto the bed. He was unable to move his right side. The patient's wife noted slurred speech and a facial asymmetry. Paramedics were called, and started IV and oxygen upon arrival. They transported the patient and his wife to the medical center and arrived at about 7:08 am. The medics reported that while in the ambulance, the hemiparesis completely resolved. In the Emergency Department, the wife was extremely distraught and insisted that a neurologist be summoned. She made several highly disruptive requests.

At this point you would:

ATerminate the Code Stroke because the patient has improved.

BTerminate the Code Stroke because the wife is uncooperative.

CContinue with the Code Stroke by ordering the usual labs and a CT brain scan.
