Action
Mechanism of action unknown; increases cerebral blood flow; inhibits platelet aggregation.

Status
Phase III trial (PASS) reported 1997. Piracetam did not influence outcome when given within 12 hours of acute stroke. PASS II trial ongoing as of 2/01. Small trial suggests benefit of piracetam for aphasia after stroke.
